The Great Lakes Ecosystem Education Exchange (GLEEE) program develops place-based lesson plans and educational resources that teachers and educators can use with learners of all ages to bring the Great lakes into their classrooms and programs.
Great Lakes Ecosystem Education Exchange Basin Bags
GLEEE Basin Bags are educational toolkits designed to introduce learners of all ages to the wonders of the Great Lakes to increase their Great Lakes literacy and connect them to these unique bodies of water. Each bag contains books, resources, and lesson plans that educators can use to bring experiential, hands-on learning experiences related to the Great Lakes and watershed issues into any classroom. By providing these comprehensive teaching resources, the Basin Bags support GLEEE's broader goals of preparing the next generation to make sound decisions regarding the health of New York’s Great Lakes and encouraging students to pursue careers in environmental fields. To learn more about what’s in a Basin Bag and how you can use one with your learners, visit the Basin Bag Google Site.
Great Lakes Ecosystem Education Exchange Lesson Plans
Each year, GLEEE Workshop participants work with fellow educators and Great Lakes experts to co-develop place-based education lesson plans based on the topic of the workshop. The participants of the GLEEE Workshops do something with a lesson plan focused on the topic of the workshop. Following these workshops, educators implement and refine these lessons with their students and provide feedback on the lesson. This input is incorporated into 5-E Lesson Plans that provides a structured yet flexible framework for active, inquiry-based learning on Great Lakes topics.
